My Favorite Read so far Dear John; This book is written by an author named Nicholas Sparks, who also wrote Message in a Bottle, A long walk to remember, The Note Book and Rhodesian Nights. Giving a male's perspective on falling in love, this time the man isn't the bad guy. The main character, John Tyree, is a tear-away boy, who decides to make a change in his life and enlists into the US Army. During this time, he states himself as a soldier first, a man second, or so he thought until Savannah walked into his life. This is an old classic romance novel, going back to Nicholas Spark's true form from Message in a bottle and the note book. John forms a long distance relationship with Savannah, being that he is based in germany and she is home in the US. When all seems well and he is about to leave the army to be with his sweetheart, 9/11 happens. Being a true patriot, John takes a life changing risk and re-enlists into the army, setting off a chain of events that will eventually leave him heart broken. This is a refreshing read and I would recommend this book to everyone, it will change your mind non-readers! |
Memoirs of a Geisha This is a story about a young girl called Sayuri, who was sold by her father to a life of servitude. This compelling story is well written and informative of the Japanese culture pre-world war. The book left me wanting more but also shocked at how these women were used in an every day life by man. I also feel that the film interpretation was the best so far of a book to film adaptation. But like always, there are some parts of the book left out that I think would have been good in the film. |
